Hello,

I had exactly the same error message show up along with the following error code: MFMessageErrorDomain error 1028

Now, the steps I performed to cause this seems to have been:

1. Install brand new CLEAN Leopard install.
2. Update with all available updates
3. Use Mail

At this point everything worked perfectly.

4. Add a USB HDD.
5. Setup Time Machine
6. Open Mail
7. Send large email ~ 20Mb
8. Problem begins

Frustrated for about 3 hours. Then decide to take drastic action:

1. Close Mail
2. Turn OFF Time Machine
3. Delete my user Mail folder
4. Start Mail
5. Problem gone away

Not sure how long it will hold but I think this is Time Machine related. Don't know why though!

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks

Mario

Benjy,

I had the same problem for the first time this morning. Installed Leopard last week without problems, but this morning for some reason Mail would hang on startup. I have several accounts, including one to an Exchange server, but didn't know which was the problem.

So I went into ~/Library/Mail, and while I didn't find Envelope Index-journal, I did find Envelope Index. I removed it and restarted Mail. Mail came up and asked if I wanted to re-index all my mail. I said cancel and it quit.

I put Envelope Index back, restarted Mail, and it hung.

So I removed it again, started Mail, let it re-index all my mail, and now it works just fine.

No clue what that file does but it seems as if it was corrupted. Interestingly, going back in Time Machine, I can't find the file until this morning. It's just not there. So I have no idea what happened, but Mail works. For now. Fingers-crossed.

I'm pretty sure it supports bluetooth headsets but not bluetooth stereo; I think that's the only bluetooth support it has at the moment: it just doesn't support the bluetooth GPS profile at all.

Not to mention, Apple hardware is notorious for bugs in its first version, after being rushed to market. Also, does the iPhone not do Bluetooth at all, or is it just your specific GPS model? For me, the wireless headset (while driving, not posing while walking) is critical for long (and irrelevant) conference calls.

Hey there. I realize this is an incredibly old post, but it is, very literally, the only place on the internet that I can find anybody talking about this idea. Interestingly reading John Siracusa's article again, 2 of his 3 suggestions have become reality in the form of spotlight search and smart folders. But the file browsing interface still doesn't exist! I've been desperately trying to find a third party application that does this -- offer an iTunes browser interface using arbitrary user-defined metadata -- to no avail. I don't suppose you know of anything, or have worked on anything yourself...

Regards,
Matt Hine

Yes, the same has been happening to me about 3-10 times a day at random hours for about 4 months now. It's really helped me hate the phone. I'm also on-call at times so I leave the phone on, it vibrates every few hours, I check it, another 3-4 line garbled spam...I say a few ceremonial curses and go back to what I was doing before the interruption.

No other carriers seem to be having this problem based on a few folks I've asked recently. We're going to switch about 70 phones over to another carrier soon, but not based on this issue. Nextel really needs to add some antispam filters to their number@page.nextel.com service, and be more proactive at keeping their existing customers happy. ;-)
