Gah, I am such a freak. Here I am cooking dinner and needing 1 3/4 cup of water. However, I unfortunately do not own a 3/4 cup measuring cup.

So, instead of stupidly measuring out 1 cup and 3 1/4 cups, I'm the sort who'll measure out two cups, and then use the 1/4 cup to pull 1/4 cup back out of those first 2 cups.

So simple, and yet probably overlooked by so many. It's all about looking at things from the right direction, y'see...
