Getting to Europe Is About to Get Easier - "Ryanair ... has said [they plan] to start a new airline that will fly from secondary European markets like Liverpool or Birmingham to a half-dozen American cities like Baltimore or Providence, R.I., for a base fare as low as 10 euros, or about $16 at $1.59 to the euro. Oh, right, Liverpool-Baltimore for the win.

Mexicana to Join oneworld Alliance

Mexicana to Join oneworld Alliance - "Mexicana with the Click Mexicana network will add 26 destinations to the oneworld map -- 24 in Mexico plus Bakersfield (California, USA) and Edmonton (Canada)." Wait, really? Oh, right, the highly lucrative GDL-BFL route.

2008 Prediction 4: PHP Problems

2008 Prediction 4: PHP Problems - "A large part of the problem PHP has is that it's evolved substantially over time and doesn't force you to program in a certain way: you never know if you're getting clean object-oriented code or nasty procedural code" [From Commentor Chris Adams]

The thing I find ironic about this comment is that it forgets functional programming completely, which kind of just emphasizes how bad PHP is at it.

OS X drag and drop problems explained.

Finder Drag/Drop bug still around? - I had this problem before Leopard, but Leopard certainly exacerbated it and things deteriorated to the point that I couldn't drag tabs in Firefox or text within TextEdit; that said, I still didn't believe it was Quicksilver's fault until I read this. I'm already missing Quicksilver.

Nokia Mobile Codes

Nokia Mobile Codes - I was wondering what the "barcode scanner" on my new Nokia N95 was for, and this is it. I've been trying to think of a cool use for a mobile code, but I'm not really coming up with anything.

Bye Bye Bell’s

Bye Bye Bell's - How Illinois beer distribution laws, fiercely protected by a powerful industry, drove away one of Chicago’s favorite small brewers. - I was pretty disappointed to not find any Bell's Beer on my recent trip to Chicago, and this great article goes into the reasons why (and probably more than you want to know about the insanity that are beer distribution laws).

We Paved Paradise

We Paved Paradise - Sure I'm a transit dork, but I really liked this article. "So why can't we find any place to park? Because parking is one of the biggest boondoggles -- and environmental disasters -- in our country."

The scourge of that damn frog song

The scourge of that damn frog song - While it's an interesting idea, I'm not convinced.

My comment on ringtones? "You think ringtones are bad? Just wait until the advent of ringtones for moped horns in India or some other place that comes from the “I’m here!” school of horn usage.

If by putting that idea in words I’ve doomed us all, I apologize in advance."

Amazon AWS announces Flexible Payment Service

Amazon AWS announces Flexible Payment Service - So this is awesome and all, but I have one question: why didn't SQS get mentioned in the "history of AWS" section of that post?

Summize’s review visualization

Summize's review visualization - I like this even better than the widget(s) that were recently introduced on Amazon detail pages with this kind of broken down information.

Seeing Mexican Immigration clearly

Seeing Mexican Immigration clearly - A nice article on Mexican immigration; a lot of great underreported facts, and I especially like that he refers to it as "undocumented migration" throughout the article.

A Fresh Look at Efficient Perl Sorting

A Fresh Look at Efficient Perl Sorting - Ah, perl! This is exactly the sort of thing I love about you.
