So back in October, when I made that ridiculous list of which games on each platform I was looking forward to, I only listed Myth III for the Mac. And sadly, I didn't even choose to buy Myth III. After playing it at MacWorld SF, I was totally turned off by the way the game just seemed to have a slower pace.
But in that entry, I made reference to the ridiculous game situation on the mac. But you know what? I forgot the mac game I was anticipating even more than Myth III: Escape Velocity Nova.
And EV Nova came out today! Woohoo!
The graphics might look deceptively simple, but the gameplay is ridiculously addictive. I can't even begin to guess at how many hours I sank into the first two EVs, and this one has everything that was good about the first two and more. And the best part is, it's a Mac exclusive. I remember how envious my Windows using friends were back in the day over EV Override.
(Basically, it's a very open ended arcade space simulator (top-down view), where you start as a lowly shuttle pilot and go on to do any number of things, from being a trader, to a bounty hunter, to an explorer, to whatever you like. It's very addictive.)
Uh, anyway, if you're a Mac user and have spare time to kill (and a big link to download this 100 meg file with), definitely check it out. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to play "one more mission" before going to bed... ;-)

I played the first one plenty but skipped Override. I remember the first EV had a Star Wars mod which was really good. I still remember warping into a system in a Star Destroyer followed by a fleet of TIEs.
(By the way, what turned me off to Myth III is that the demo barely runs on my iBook. What’s up with that?)

1. EV in general has a very Star Wars feel, just in the scale of ships and combat, and the types of missions involved — in fact, I’d put money on Matt Burch having been inspired by Star Wars more than anything else…
1.5. EV plugins make EV a pretty much infinite game, which also rocks. So after you’ve played through EVN 10 times to trace through all the various storylines there are, you can download a bunch of plugins, too.
2. Man, if Myth III barely runs on your iBook, who knows how bad it’d be on my poor Pismo…
3. I get the feeling that Civ III would also suck my life away. I’ll check it out this summer if you check out EVN! ;-)

Just ordered EVN last night so that I have the CD to install from… my home ‘Net options are not conducive to big downloads.
Is Civ3 the shiznit? Some reviews I’ve seen give it negative points for too much micromanagement, and that the governments(even Democracy) allow too much corruption. That said, I’ve been a fan from Civ1, Civ2, and Alpha Centauri(Alien Crossfire is my game of choice lately).
As to EV versions… I played the original maniacally, one might say compulsively. I loved the SW mods(I believe there were at least two), and the ST one. Enjoyed the B5 mod while it lasted – discontinued due to copyright problems.
Have played EVO, but less lately. It had some improvements over the original, but I miss those old mods.

Why do you need codes? There’s no way to lose on this game. Just play it normally unless you suck so much you can’t even do the basic strings. This game’s plot could have been better. I still the EVO had a better plot and allows for more gameplay choices. But EVN’s gameplay is still better than EVO’s for sure.
First, I love this game, but our ancient power mac simply cannot run it. In fact EVO barely ran on it, so I only even played the demo of EVO. When I found out they were porting this to PC I jumped for joy because I knew our PC could run it. Second, Ambrosia is great, they give you an almost completely playable demo, and only charge $30 for the full version. If you want them to come out with more fixes, and maybe plugs or an EV4 you should support them by buying it! If you can affort a computer to run this, you can afford the game. Quit smoking for a week or two if you smoke and there’s the money right there?

You know, alot of times it’s highschool students and college students…or even tech support people. Face it buddies, some guys like to play vid games, but would rather spend the money on a girl. I agree, if Ambrosa gets word that keys are being illegally distributed they will shutdown. You can tell they are running low on resources. If you guys have a pc just wait til it comes out for it, the company is very very close to finishing the pc version which will be much better then the mac version and doesnt require all the damned computer resources. It will only need 400mhz 128mb ram and a basic 4mb vid card. I have a 1.54ghz with 128mb vid and 512mb ddr, my computer can spin circles around any mac for shits a giggles and the mac will never match it in power– stick with pc there more powerful and better to use

I was 11 when i got EVN (13 now, I turned 12 the day I got it (birthday present ;)). If you get pocket money then just save it up. Also if your so poor how come you have a Game Cube?! My dad gets $237,000 AUS a year (about $165,000 US) and I haven’t got a PS2 or a Game Cube or an X-Box or nothin’ just a 93 PPC Peice ‘o S**t with a couple of upgrades. If your so poor how come you’ve got a whole bunch of stuff I don’t? And I get paid out at school for being rich. (but hey, I don’t have cheap ass shoes :D)

Let it be known to everyone that when ambrosia first discovers a site like this that could result in the loss of registrations, they have some of their employees make a new email, and post saying they want a code. If you happen to send your code to them, they will disable that code from working, and if you send an email asking why, they will know that you are a pirate. If you are ever caught with piracy, well, just know that ambrosia has very, very good lawers. I am not directing this at the people that are asking for them, I am telling (and threatening) everyone to not give them codes. I’ll bet most of the people here have 100 bucks lying around but are saving it for something that cannot be pirated. To them, I say this: You have reached a new low.

You are suggesting ways of piracy, which makes it so Andrew could force the admin of this site to give information on you to track you down to your real email, and piracy nowadays isnt taken lightly. About a year ago, a 12 year old kid tried to pirate Nova. Andrew used his hacking experience to obtain the kid’s name, address, and phone number. He called the kid’s house and talked to his parents about how software piracy is wrong.
The kid was very apologetic and didn’t try to pirate Nova again.
This is not a threat. It’s a reality. Ambrosia Software is a small company, but they are by no means struggling. They are doing quite well, but like I said… they are small, and therefore have the time and resources to track down individual pirates of their games and applications.
My advice to all of you is simple.
Don’t pirate software in general, and don’t pirate Ambrosia software in particular.

Now this is curious. No one posting here except for what is apparently just one individual who wants to steal software, and several individuals from this Ambrosia Software web site. And based on the methods that the individual is resorting to, I’d say he’s fighting a losing battle. But it’s somewhat unclear as to what he is fighting against exactly. Not very clear, he seems to be having trouble accepting any kind of authority, be it for rules, as a piece of software that is $30 is almost pointless to spend this much time and effort to try to pirate, or be it for people. Perhaps he is simply having trouble fitting in with his new teenage life, as his writings are too immature to suggest anyone older than 14. He may be wanting to fit in, and the best way to do so is to stand out, so that people accept who he is. But his methods of doing so are not very effective, and this just encourages his resentment of authority, as authority figures can easily brush aside what he tries to do. Thus, he starts himself into a negative cycle, where he tries to defy more and more things that represent authority over him, be it dress code, common social rules, people’s expectations, or the system in general. So he tries to break society’s rules, by doing minor things such as piracy, but as soon as some authority figure steps in, or when a majority of people reject him, his public image suffers, he gets irrational, and he resorts to any way he can to bring his public reputation back up. Unfortunately, his growing anger at the people who have hurt his public image results in his inherent immaturity being more pronounced, and thus, his methods lose their effectiveness, hurting his image even more. This can only be solved by giving him time to relax and become calm again, and then perhaps some counseling so that he can learn how to feel accepted and how to nurture his self image without the use of negative attention.

i remeber that wen i used to play escape velocity (the original) i was able to crack it by using res edit @ age 12(sum 4 or 5 years ago), now evnova is whole different story, i wud actually need 2 study res edit to figure out how to get my free version of nova, i also hav 2 say that sum of the poularity of the escape velocity series is due to the fact that u got almost the full version for absolutely nothing. great game, and the fact that its only for mac makes it all the much sweeter. peace homeys

Yes, when your thirteen it is easy to get thirty dollars. Its easy to get thirty dollars when your thirty. The problem is when your thirty you have to pay for a place to live and things to eat and people to be your girlfriend and when your thirteen you have to pay for… video games.
The fact of the matter is if someone who would not otherwise buy EV pirates it Amb. loses no revenue. They weren’t going to buy it before, right? So basically if someone who couldn’t afford the game pirates it amb. loses nothing and the pirate gains utility. Whats the harm there? Besides, if amb. loathes piracy so much why not pick up a publisher and distribute like the vast majority of gameing companies? Amb. is screwing off a vastly expensive process that its competitors have to go through, the reason its competitors don’t is piracy. Take away piracy and everyone distributes on-line. If everyone distributes on-line, publishers and retailers lose money. If they lose money people lose jobs. I would contest that the majority of pirates would not otherwise buy the game, and as such it hurts no one. Furthermore, if piracy were not a percieved threat then the net impact on our economy would be negative as our unemployment lines filled up. So FUK U U L33T C14SSIT F4G0TS!

As for the idiots arguing about Macs vs PCs… if you know anything about either, it doesn’t really matter – you can overclock a PC to go faster than any mac on the market will ever be, and you can tweak a mac to go as fast as any PC on steroids. It’s user preference. The more you know about computers in general, the more you will realize that they are all fundamentally the same. Idiots and graphic designers tend to prefer macs because they’re more “user friendly” and have nicer editing progs. Gamers’ obvious choice would be PC. Personally I use Linux, and can emulate both a mac or pc, with more stability and speed than either of the non-emulated POSs could ever have. *shrug*

I wanted to hold out hope for Apple’s PowerPC offering, but Jobs lies and stretches do a disservice to IBM and their powerful CPU. This type of show from Apple may keep them pegged at 1.9% marketshare, but the sweet spot for real desktops is firmly below the $1,000 mark. The PowerPC G5 system will allow Apple to hang onto what is left of their share, but they throw logic out the window with their over the top presentation that misleads, distorts facts, and leaves serious questions about actual performance. Apple would do well to bring back clones and give Jobs the boot. Here’s hoping they do so they can regain marketshare and offer real competition to Microsoft, and further pressure on Intel. Hand the real thanks to IBM and all of the borrowed PC technology. That is what is allowing Apple to survive.

Bottom line, unless you have a very specific use or program that requires $10k worth of computer, who in their right mind would buy it? If you took $10,000 and spent it on PC parts (personally, id rather use it to pay off my crappy car loan)ud have a computer that could serve a small town. Personally, I have a macintosh, but it sits out in my garage in a box. What am I sitting infront of? A dell. I built it for less than $600. It boasts an extremely reliable intel 845 chipset, a 533mhz FSB, and a 2.4ghz P4 Processor. Is it crazy fast? No, but thats mainly due to the massive amount I have stored on it. Is it fast enough? Hell yeah. It boots in 30seconds or less, it plays all the games with a built in graphics chipset (if you can hold one thing against dell, its that they used a low profile AGP slot at all) and it gets the job done with out having to wait. Why on earth would someone pay the outrageous amount of money for a mac for personal use when a $1000 pc will get you a lot more (including warantee for peice of mind)for your hard earned money. Oh well, that’s my 2 cents.

I am a registered owner of Escape Velosity (the original version) 1.0.0., and I think its time I threw a couple dollars at them. For those who don’t have the money, just think creatively. I just bought a car that is very expensive for me. I didn’t have much choice either, and I work for a Wal-Mart. What did I do to get the extra couple bucks? I sold a couple things on ebay! A handfull of old pentium processors and some PC66 memory got me just over $30. I am also hoping that I will get a discount for having already registered EV Nova 1.0.0.

I just sat here and read this whole page of nonsense. I’ll admit that when I lost my code for EV I did get a SN generator. To my amazement it actually worked! However since my code of ethics appears to be at a higher standard than a lot of you broke ass software whores, I am proud to own EV, EVO, AND EV: Nova Mac + PC versions. You may be wondering, “Why both versions?” Well my parents have a Quicksilver G4 with dual 1.5Ghz processors, I have a custom built PC with a 2.5 Ghz Pentium 4, 1Gig RAM, and a bigger hard drive than Ron Jeremy. But you know what, I FUCKING HATE IT!!! I have been alive since day 1 of the modern computer industry and in all my experiences with computers (Macs and PC’s) I will tell you this. We all know damn well that when software piracy occurs on such levels – to be exact – 4 people in this entire board did finally get the registered game without paying, which includes the weird guy who claims to have erased a part of it to make it work…
As for Captain Hecktor, it’s a joke, no less so than the Auroran dropbear, the reason is that if you move your computer’s date a few days back you can fool the game and make it think as if you’re only playing it for a few days.
The real trouble is that you can’t complete the storylines. Which really is a problem, because I myself am stuck in the middle of the Vell-Os campaign and can’t go any further. I can’t really leave and do something else either because I can’t get any other missions (Damned beaureu).
As for Ambrosia’s work in making great games – they do make great games. Awesome even. And I LOVE the EV trilogy – played them all, including quite a few plug-ins for the first. But lets face it – the people asking for codes are not just taking a pot-shot at it and if no one gives them a code theyll buy the game. They will either go and find a code in some “security” site (Hacker’s site) or simply move on to a game they do have the code for. So Ambrosia isn’t really losing money.
And Darkpsycho – you’re a f**k up. not all people have rich neighbours who have personal lawns and are willing to pay good money for hem to be mawed. We don’t all live in the U.S.A. where EV costs about 1/300 of a monthly pay. I am in Russia right now, for example, and the costs of shipping and stuff can bring up the price to some 50$, about 1/8 of a monthly pay. Your equivalent of some 250$ – would you pay 250$ for this game? I wouldn’t, no matter how much I love it.
And one last comment – to the person who wrote that Ambrosia was the last MAC only company – not quite true any more. while they ARE mac oriented we can see that they are making their products available for PC as well. Just like Spiderweb SW.

back to the war of mac vs. pc…
i will be the first to admit that a mac has better chipsets and hardware, but the software and the periphrials suck shit. i am inclined to agree with the “what the fuck is the one mouse button shit” comment posted earlier. and yes, OSX is more stable than win xp, but so is my three legged dog. the best thing you can do to get the most of your gaming experience is to buy a mac, a top of the line one. then wipe the os, install linux(SuSe or redhat preferably) and use the WINE emulator to play games after a small win driver download from someones pc.. that gives you the best hardware, best software, and most versatile gameplay. thats a gaming machine.
another note about os’s. why the hell do you want to pay 300 or more bucks for win xp or however much for the osx when there are better versions of os for free. SuSe linux is the most stable operating system in existance, just ask microsoft, they tried to buy the freeware copyright and release it as lindows… remember if they charge you for it, how can you be sure they didnt program in just enough bugs to make you spend more money on updates, upgrades, and tech support for your broken little toy?
the gist of all this is to say, have fun playing your game on whatever machine you want, but remember, the grass is allways greener on the other side…….

The basic problem with Shareware is the strength of the US dollar. $30 for EVN isn’t a lot, but AU$60 is, and its worse with other currencies. Until US companies solve thos problem there will always be a market for crackz and piracy. It’s all very well for US cirtizens to moralise about the issue, but overseas people are paying a lot more.
well heres the scoop on macs and PC’s…….PC’s i hate to say it get all the GOOD stuff first and this is from first hand expierience… I owned my own G4 yikes for a couple of years and i thought it was the shiat… it didnt crash it hummed along at a decent speed and all kinds of other great stuff…. but sadly one thing drove me to th PeeCee side of the force…. all my freidns playing these wicked games that I couldnt cause they were not on the mac and would not be ported to the mac…. i mean half-life rules and half-life 2 is gonna rock your world…there are SOOO amny good mods for half-life and soooo many good games for PC’s that never came out for mac….which is sad…. Than there is the Hardware side of things… macs are always about 3 to 6 months behind on most of the new graphics hardware and i mean jeeze i still am blown away how the were stuck at 500 mhz for like a year and a half almost!!! i mean come one move on too a new chip for christs, sake…. Lets face it yes Macs did pioneer the GUI but thats all they really pioneerd….yeah Gates based his windows off of Mac OS…so what it definately turned out to be a good buisness strat for him…look at his net worth and steve jobs net worth….its like look at a pair of jeans a and armani tux (seriousily steve wears too much denem for a comp. company CEO) either way macs lost the war a LONG time ago and they will never be more than the machine of choice for graphic designers. peace out from a former mac lover turned to the dark side….and sint it sooo sooo sweet!

Well, I like the game and all, I have the windows port, and I have done ALL the campaigns to the cutoff. It is a GREAT game, but is it really worth $30 when you can get a fully 3D game like Homeworld for $10? I guess if they drop the price to near ten bucks, or someone cracks it, or creates a keygen, then I’ll go for it. (Prefferably they lower the price, I would rather buy it legally)

as for pc vs. mac, those people who actually care are just sad. sorry. i have an apple laptop (yay!) and basically, it comes down to this: macs look nicer. im used to pcs and this new designer thing kinda reminds me of my job at B&O – not many people have it, but once u get used to it, u swear by it. i know nothing about speed… but to b honest, ive had Pentium 2, 3, 4 and the old PPC chipd running BeOS, Win 3.1, 95, 98, NT, XP, linux and Mac OSX is abt the only system so far not to crash on me – ever. so i guess ive finally found summat to suit.

Wow, all this hate. It’s ok if a Mac has half the gHz because it only needs to process the execution once, not multiple times like most PC’s. Besides, just because AMD is rushing a 64 bit chip out doesn’t mean it’llbeat the g5. Regardless of all this, who the hell cares about what machine you’re running. I’m running an 800mHz g4 iMac and i get on the same internet as you, play Escape Velocity like everyone else and i don’t have to pull out my junk and wave it around hoping it’s bigger than anyone elses. PC’s beat Macs on many fields but Macs crush PC’s on others. It’s all dependent on what you use it for. You wouldn’t enter an offroad vehicle race in a corvette, nor would you show up on the drag strip with a pickup.

I’m no pirate, and I ain’t interested in acquiring a key from ya’ll (though I certainly wouldn’t complain if someone were to send one…) My primary reason for writing this is that I am anti-pay-for-anything. I seem to recall a time in the blissful past when people would program games and stuff for the simple purpose of doing it. A great game like Escape Velocity: Nova is an example of a game that should have been free. And as for driving them out of business, here’s a hint: if you release a really good game for free, when you come out with another people will be willing to pay elevated prices. I’ve been around to see Ambrosia’s stuff since 1994, when I first got a hold on Maelstrom on a Macworld CD and played it incessantly on a Performa 467. Yes, a 33MHz 68030 chip Mac. I registered EV when I played 1.0.5 and didn’t look back, not once, even though it wasn’t crippled at all (and I _liked_ Captain Hector). And the forklift kicked ass too.
EVO was the one I skipped. Didn’t have a fast enough processor to make it worthwhile, although I may get back into it now that I’m using Basilisk and the emulated 68040 from a Quadra 840AV to have a go at it.
EVN for Windows… admittedly, it’s Mac native, but it’s still damn good, and no, I won’t give out my key. Thirty dollars isn’t too much to ask for it, and if you don’t want to order the CD, go to a local print store or ask a friend to burn the installer for you.
The only thing I wish that Ambrosia would do is develop a tool to clear the mission bits so that the alternate storylines could be done on the same pilot (while clearing the complete bits to revoke possession of ships/equipment in the outf and ship menus)… and release that tool for Windows.

First off…whoever initiated this post is a moron…EVN is NOT mac exclusive, Ambrosia made a very smart move and ported to Windows…expands the user base so they can make more money (especially given how expensive macs are to start with). Second, all these lazy sons of bitches asking for codes…ever heard of searching the net? You may have to look for a while, but only took me 15 min to find a crack of the executable that makes it registered without needing a code (espcially given the complexity of the code).
Oh yeah…for everybody who says Mac pioneered the GUI…they stole it too…wow.
actually, i just read some benchmarks in a Macaddict magazine, and the Macs lost on all but one test. I’m not saying that macs are all that bad, but I do think that PCs are superior. And actually, I think the Atari or the Atari ST were some of the first computers. Macs sucked in comparison.

Okay, there’s a lot I could say, but I’ll keep it short.
First off, you can’t compare Macs and PCs because they’re completely diferent things. Quoting statistics is pointless because anyone who knows anything about statistics knows that they can be manipulated to “prove” anything one wants them to. I’m a Mac user. I use Macs because I like them and am comfortable using them. From what I’ve seen, PCs do not impress me in the slightest. I could go on, but I won’t because I’m not initiating another branch of the omnipresent Mac vs. PC debate.
Second, Nova is a shareware game, so those of you whining about shipping costs are mistaken; you can just download the damn thing for free, or have Ambrosia send you a disc for only 5 bucks.
Also, good luck defeating Ambrosia’s anti-piracy measures. They’re easily the best in the business.

i bet half of you don’t know that the first versions of windows were built off of the macintosh os (at the time it would’ve been illegal if they got caught), and each version of windows has been atleast partially built off of the previous versions, so macs and pc’s have much more in common than you’d think – it’s actually like a rubberband – microsoft stole the mac os and added a lot of features to it (in a sense, stretching the band), and finally, after all these years (finally), macintosh is taking a lot of those new features from the windows os, and putting them into the the mac os (snapping the band back)
so don’t argue that the operating systems have nothing in common, or that one is much better than the other (or more intuitive) because they constantly steal ideas from each other.

*sighs* this forum is really depressing, 80% of it is Mac vs PC war. As most mac forums for some reason turn out to be. I believe partly the reason is most PC users get really bored and have nothing better to do but to pay out some mac users, I personally dont mind using either mac or pc, i have both and use them both, however, i tend to use the PC for games and the Mac for Multimedia and design programs. they are both great operating systems and computers.

PC Nova is coming but not for a while yet. For proof mac kick arse Check the G5 and weep in sorrow. 8GB of Ram kciks the arse of a 3Ghz processor from Pee Cee land. Your PC 64 bit couldn’t hold a candle to the G5. Thats the only reason your getting so hostile. Clearly you have deep seated psycological problems if you get so worked up over an argument about whether PC’s are better then Macs or vice verse you should behave calmly. Swearing is not the way to get your point across though by the fact you think so I realise you must be American. Only Americans swear to make themselves seem more important. Ummm… Look up the specs, AMD 64 FX-51 can run circles around Apples 64 bit proccesor. Macs did not come first. My proof is that the Macintosh 128K was released in 1984, whereas the first PC, the Altair, was released in 1974. Ive played it for a while and this game isn’t worth the 30 dollars. Games The graphics are crappy as hell. Save urself this money and go buy games that are worth it. One of the best games i have ever played is Serious Sam 2. The graphics were amazing and the action was nonstop. And it was only worth 20. Ambrosia should really price it according to what it merits. Starcraft now sells under 10 and i’d gladly play that over EVN. Hell, the entire diablo pack sells for 30, go buy that.
and by the way, Deviance is the best game cracker ive heard of. Just about every game i’ve ever gotten a crack for has his signature,a dn they all work perfectly. sigh…it all has to do with the date on your computer. For one, make SURE you are never connected to the internet when you play this, and change your computers date to June of 2002 or something like that. As I recall this works. And wow, reading two years of crap about this anti-piracy stuff up above is somewhat depressing. Anyways, since the posts above are killing my second life, I am running away. (How do you kill captain hector? I tried to finish him with a 9 mill scarab and failed. Yeah, I got 2 biorelay and 2 pulse capistors, polaron torpedoes and wraith cannons, but I somehow never managed to kill him. I did make him grow very purple though. BTW, it seems to me that my copy only stops me from advancing the storyline. I can do everything else. Even conquesting the whole galaxy, muhahahahha, fear my 12 invincible mantas. -Only got 6 at the moment, need another 3 mill. The only thing I conquered so far was the pirate station next to the rebel base.-)

The protocol for Macintosh is very similar. All that needs to be done is:
1 – Delete the EV Nova folder if you have already installed it. If you want to keep your current pilot…save him on your desktop for the meantime
2 – Use Sherlock to find “EV Nova License” and “EV Nova Prefs”…then delete them.
3 – Click off your cable/dsl modem
4 – Apple Menu>Control Panels>Date and Time: Set your system date to 5/8/2003, and remove the option ‘Use a Network Time Server’ if it is checked.
5 – Re-start
6 – Re-install EV Nova.
7 – Register with the good ole’:

8 – Copy your old pilot into the ‘EV Pilots’ folder of the newly installed version.
9 – Run a firewall, (eg. Netbarrier), and block EVs internet sending and receiving capability

1.THe PC vs.Mac war…. PC’s are a whole bunch better than Mac in a whole bunch of crap expect the are hacked the most often and r more succumb to viruses and Mac is better at protecting against itself from viruses and i no there is more to this MacVs.Pc thing…

FUCK all u people who says the EV Nova sucks ,it is still a great game even if u still dont have a license code it still is a great game and i do think to u should pay Ambrosia for it because it is a great game i have a solution it this paying thing 1. (People in USA) Get off ur lazy asses and get a little job like babysitting or do ur chores(really good) and hope ur parents pay u for ur good deeds for like 2-4weeks then payoff the register thing.(there r other ways)
2.(To the people who live elsewhere)Ask a relative in America to register for u and say that u will honor them forever and soon u will pay them back(very soon i hope).

I’ve seen some very interesting comments here. I own a sort of gaming Internet Cafe in Manchester, NH and I’va had some problems with this PC-Mac war. In my cafe I buy the games and you can check as many as you want out, as long as it’s in good condition when you give it back and, obviously, you must pay for lost gmaes. I’ve only carried PCs in my cafe for years. The way it works is that you can either walk in and pay, or get a membership (which is a good choise :) I had all these kids freak out because they couldn’t play EV Nova because of this. Now, I’ve seen Ambrosia grow, and I knew they were going to make a windows version. Well what do you know? At first I had my employees just download the windows version and let the kids play that for a while. I knew about the registration fee, but I wanted to be sure about this game, I didn’t want to spend $1100 dollars getting 36 copies of the game until I knew if it would bring in customers. I had just purchased 36 copies of Frozen Throne and of Command and Conquer Generals. I sprung for these quickly mostly because you can play online, which offers endless possibilities. I’va seen the engine for Nova at conventions, it won’t support online play. I’ve had a problem with kids comming in and doing this cheat thing to register illegaly. I can understand how it works ( the one where you have the expired code and you change the date on your computer) I can’t have illegal acts in my cafe, but kids are gong beserk trying to register to play the ends of the missin lines. I need advice from you board-goers: Should I spring for for registering the Mac Version? Should I get a bunch of Macs so the kids can get more plugins and THEN get the Mac version (this includes moving back my idea to add a second floor to the cafe) or should I wait and see if the EV Nova craze goes away (and it will, people)

Indeed Ambrosia is one of, if not the, best company for mac and Win users alike. As far as Arrakis’ comment on his machine spinning circles, It would spin even better if it were a Linux or (since it’s the same base) Mac OS X. Still, the Intel x86 arch is not as good as the G4 or definively the G5.

I have to admit, I came to this site from a search engine looking for a registration code for EV Nova. After reading some of the genius written by those that hack, crack, and otherwise ILLEGALLY register games, I have come to the conclusion that I want nothing to do with any of them. I came back to this site to post this message and then I probably will never come back. The admin of this site should step up and do something about the comments and ongoing conversations found here. People spouting curses like 13 year olds rebelling against mommy and daddy. Whiners complaining about not being able to come up with 30 bucks (save a dollar a day for the duration of the demo, it’s only the price of a burger at McDonalds or a cappuccino.) I can’t think of another hobby where people have the ability to participate for free by cheating the “system”. And before anybody responds to this, I am not afraid of being tracked down by Ambrosia. I am not going to illegally register this product, so I have nothing to fear. Besides, being a smaller company means that they do have better things to do with their resources than track down every individual that cheats. The best they can do is nail a few people and hope that stops most others from trying it, the same as any other software company. Come on, the people that work there have to get paid, right. They would have to give up their income to chase everyone down. They are a good company, and good people so they deserve the 30 bucks.
For those that live in other countries, contact Ambrosia, they may be able to work something out that is fair to you and them. For those immature cursing teenagers and flamers, I challenge you to write an intelligent response to this WITHOUT curses and without writing me off as anything other than a concerned gamer. If you can’t do that, then you prove yourself to have such a limited understanding of the English language that you can’t be over 13.
For those who bash Mac or PC, it is, foremost, a matter of choice. PCs get the games first, and some never come out for Mac. Macintosh is better at graphic design, and therefore is very popular with designers and print shops. PCs are good at number crunching (accounting) which is why accounting firms and large-scale servers tend to use PCs (IBM). Who cares which computer out-performs which. I don’t care if a Mac outperforms a PC since I am foremost using my computer for games. If I had a Mac, there would be plenty of games I couldn’t even play. If I were a graphic designer, I wouldn’t care if PCs outperformed Mac, because pretty much everyone in my industry would be using Mac, and if I had a PC, most of my files would cause problems for other designers and print shops.
In regards to the OS, Mac OS X is supposed to be based on Unix, which is one of the most stable operating systems in existence, so it’s pretty good. Linux is also based on or very similar to Unix. I think Linux is the best OS you can find for any system, especially considering it is free. The one thing you have to do is find the version with a graphic user interface that you like, and you’re set. There are emulators for Windows and for Mac, and from what I’ve heard and read they’re pretty good.
I hope the admin does step up. If this is supposed to be an EV Nova discussion board, then let’s discuss EV Nova. The people who can’t think of anything to say other than, “Please can I have a reg. code?” are really bringing down the entire discussion.

The first time I played EV Nova, I found the beginning a bit dull, but I persisted because all of the other EV games had been pretty good.
Thankfully, my persistence has payed off and I still enjoy the game.

For you people who seem to think typing FUCK YOU LMAO HAHAHA MACS SUCK qualifys as an argument against macs, you need to live in the real world for a month. Ever tried a mac? didnt think so. They have come out with more innovative ideas first, then microsoft has stolen them, they are better, and always will be. so you cant play a game thats just for pcs? get virtual pc, lets you do anything that you can do on pc, but on a mac. Oh, and i’ve used macs for probably the last 9 years, used a pc before, got too many viruses, crashed too much, had to reset the system and all that. Ive never gottena virus, it has never crashed or frozen, and ive never had a serious problem with my mac. I’m stickin to macs. definitly.
And about the software piracy thing. If you’re so poor that you cant spare 30$, or just dont want to, then i suggest you dont waste your time playing this game, and work using this time instead. Definitly worth the 30 though. great game.

i am a mac supporter (kinda obvious). im typing in a hurry so dont bug me a bout grammar please. a mac was originally faster than a pc until they went with the intel chips in mac computers. a mac proseccor (not intel chip) is 68% faster than a pc that is supposedly the same speed. my mac is 800mhz (its an oldish one) it is g4 and has 512mb of ram. i also have a laptop windows (i only needed it cos most people use em) it is 1.5ghz and refuses to let me know any more info about it. strange thing is that my mac beats my windows by far. that reminds me, stop calling windows “pc’s”!! a mac is also a pc!! but you didnt know that lowly mac hater. any way. i think windows are better for everyday boring word documents and exel crud. macs are way better than pc’s for internesting stuff like pictures and movies and music. the best metaphor i can think of for these types of computer are WINDOWS ARE THE BUSINESS MAN WHO GETS MUGGED EVERY WEEK!!! MACS ARE THE INTERESTING BLOKE AT THE PARTY WHO ALWAYS HAS HE GOOD JOKES!!! oh and by the way, a mac has a much better mouse. it has one button but it has pressure sensors so one button can do left and right click, also it has buttons on the side that let you go back and forward on the internet or in a powerpoint presentation, it also now has a SCROLL BALL NOT A SCROLL WHEEL this lets you scroll around the page ina any direction. Hey mac’s are great and all that BS everyone is spewing here. Anyway on to the main point. EVN is a few year old game now. THEY ARE STILL CHARGING $30!! New downloaded software only costs ~10 for this amount of sophistication. Hell go into a store where they have more overhead such as printing boxes and burning CDs and games that take this long to make are still less than 20 bucks. Why is this? Ambrosia is a greedy company that dosn’t inovate and isn’t all that good at programing. Look at EV in comparison, not as fancy and smaller but it has almost the same gameplay. Ambrosia could be getting riped off 7 times out of ten and they would still be making a profit. If they’re going under the only reason is because they are making the same dumbass bistakes apple made in competing with microsoft by over charging.
