Where I Could Be Right Now

Right now I could be at a TMBG concert in San Francisco. But I'm not. I'm at home watching Temptation Island. Why am I at home and not at a TMBG concert? Because, when I went to buy tickets they were already sold out, and I also had a meeting tonight. Why am I watching Temptation Island? Because this is the time before South Park, and after Ed. And I'm in a lazy mood and don't want to do anything useful. And Temptation Island is highly amusing. But I enjoyed Ed and I enjoyed South Park and my meeting was highly amusing, so I'm feeling alright, even though I'm not at the TMBG concert.

Now with sane URLs

I've made various cosmetic changes to the page, which y'all will hopefully find useful. First of all, I once again changed the formatting of each post. Each post now has a title at the top, with a recency icon at the right of the title, while the category and date text has been moved to bottom of the entry. Next, the recency icon is now a link to that exact entry, so that you can make links directly to entries on my page (I think I've heard this referred to as "permalinks"). I've also made it so that each category page can now have a distinct quote or text at the top of the page under the green title bar. Finally, I've added a new url scheme, which Kevin gave me the idea for, so that you can link to http://www.linkstew.org/cat/LinkStew.html or http://www.linkstew.org/noid/818.ht ml. This probably won't impact you too greatly, because you probably won't memorize the numbers that I've used on the page, but some day, I'll add named category and date links, which will be useful.

The End Of The Dream?

Well Shit, ain't this a bitch? So there's already one casualty in the next generation console war, and several of the best Dreamcast games are now also bound for other systems. There are still a lot of good looking games due for the Dreamcast in the next year, and I'm looking forward to a lot of them. And the prospect of Sega games on a lot of systems also is appealing. In general, I guess the only thing that I don't like about this announcement is that the general public will see this as Sega giving up. They're not giving up, they're just realizing that they'll kick ass doing just software. And since I already have a Dreamcast, and all of the next generation systems have a place in my home, this announcement doesn't matter to me much.

Why? Because it's the games, stupid.

Something to wait for in PowerBooks

Reading this article about the future of nVidia graphics on the Mac gives me a reason to hold out for awhile for future PowerBooks. nVidia graphics are something that I really like, so this is the sort of rumor that will keep me waiting.

However, I love the TiBook case just as much as I love my PowerBook G3 case, so I really hope the TiBook case sticks around as long as the PowerBook G3 case did. If the TiBook case is gone by the time nVidia graphics come around, I might just have to pick up a used TiBook because it's so awesome.

But I'm talking about things that are probably about a year away, so I'm going to go back to being hungry and yet too lazy to get up and get some food.

The People Mover

I guess it was about two weeks ago that my roommate told me he was moving out. I've really lost track, though. He told me he'd found a nice place in El Cerrito and would be moving out in early February, which, at the time, was only like two weeks away, but now is only two days away. Now, I can't fault him for moving out. He's graduating in May, and it's apparently a nice place and the rent is lower than we pay here, and if I didn't go to school at Berkeley I wouldn't want to live in Berkeley either. His timing is just less than stellar.

It's at this time of year that people seem most settled. They're not looking for anywhere to move to right now, they're just looking to take care of their classes. So the quest for a new roommate has been difficult, which is unfotunate, because while I'm able to pay for my half of the rent on my salary, there's no way I can pay for the whole thing.

At least once a day something comes up that reminds me of all this and I get very stressed out. And then I'll get calm because I think I've found a roommate, and then I discover a few days later that nope, I haven't. Right now I'm again calm because I again think I've found a roommate. But we'll see in a couple of days (or maybe a little longer) if that's the case. Hopefully.

Superbowl? Whazzat?

Apparently there's something called "The Superbowl" going on today. I'd look it up online to see if it's worth watching, but if I decided I wanted to watch it, then I'd have to make my way in front of the TV. Nah, it's probably not worth it. Besides, Ad Critic will probably capture all the good "plays" for my viewing pleasure.

Brief Review: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Directly to the point, I'd give it a 4/5, because I could suspend my disbelief for 4/5 of the amazing visuals in the movie. Now, various little points. The subtitles didn't phase me at all. Normally I like subtitles, because then I can talk with who I'm watching the movie with without missing anything. However, it seemed like everyone in the theater was concentrating intently because it was so quiet, and I ended up talking whispering less than I do during a normal movie. The fight scenes were amazing, but that was where my suspension of disbelief really began to falter. Because of that, I'd rank the fight scenes equal (or maybe just a hair lower than) those in a Jackie Chan movie. Knowing that all of Chan's fight scenes are done without cheating is something that I really enjoy. The story of CT,HD was good, and I enjoyed it. There were a few things I was confused about, but that's probably because Yahoo! Movies had the wrong time listed for the movie and I missed the first ten minutes. Oh, and it was ridiculous that people were laughing at some of the scenes in the movie that really did not warrant laughter.

Downgraded Web Hosting Service

Grrr... Argh! The machine this site is hosted on crashed again again yesterday (it crashed in November or December, also), and when they fixed it, the machine ended up downgraded even more. It's now running a linux kernel that was built in August of 1999. What the hell? Damnit, I wish they'd put me on one of their new servers like they've been claiming they'd do for months. smite!

Awake But Still In Bed

I woke up this morning to a splitting headache. I was exhausted. I rolled over a few times, trying to get comfortable. Then I saw the clock. It was noon!

Normally when I wake up with a splitting headache, it's because I didn't sleep very long. And normally when I'm still tired after waking up, it's because I didn't sleep very long. But I went to sleep before midnight! I was exhausted from oversleep! And the headache was from undercaffeination, not exhaustion.

I grabbed my laptop from my desk and started typing this. I'm awake but still in bed. I need some caffeine, but I don't want to get up to get any.

Busy As a Bee

I haven't been updating much lately -- Being enrolled in six classes for a couple of weeks, along with work and filling out job applications and trying to find a new roommate and more has kept me busy. I might update more in the next couple of weeks, but it's hard to say until I get there.
