Bored Office Browsing

Today I was in the office, and a couple of random sites got thrown around. First, we had http://www.www.com, which is apparently The World's Largest Internet Broadcasting Co., though I've never actually heard of them. Next, we came to the site of Alex Chiu. I saw this guy and his immortality rings on the Daly Show. The scary thing is, this guy is very serious. And finally, we came to Time Cube. I didn't actually read this site, but it's ugly. It looked like it had many little tips for longer life (or something).

Armed Militia

"The SCA is an armed militia."
-- Heard outside of Wall Berlin

Hella

"Yes, I said Hella, and you're hella going to have to deal with it, because you're hella in Northern California. Hella Hella Hella."
-Overheard in the DC

Hail To The King, Baby

The day after my floor watched Army of Darkness, I was sitting by myself in the DC, and across the table from me, two DC employees began talking about Army of Darkness.

More Likely That I’ve Never Noticed The Name

After finishing an essay for English by Stephen Jay Gould entitled "Darwin's Middle Road," I went to the Californians Eye Street Page to see if it held my Girl, Interrupted review (which it didn't). On that page, I found This Article by Lance Gould. I've never heard the last name before.

Valentines Day is Monday, February 14th

I was out and about earlier today, and I walked past a store that had a sign that said "Valentines Day is Monday, February 14th" in it. "No Shit," I thought to myself. Not that I care in any way about when Valentines Day is.

This little "reminder" posted in the window of a store selling Valentines merchandise really ticked me off, though. If it were really a meaningful holiday, people wouldn't need to be reminded about it. It should just be celebrated. But here it was, being shoved down the throats of both people who will take the hint, and people who will get irritated.

Holy Smoke, Vonnegut!

A week ago, Kurt Vonnegut ended up in the hospital after a fire in his house. He was hospitalized due to smoke inhalation, which is quite ironic, given Vonneguts oral fixation. He should come through alright.

The really strange thing was that when I heard this news, I became very concerned. You see, through Vonneguts writing, I came to feel like I knew him really well. Which is silly, because I've never met the man, let alone communicated with him. All the same, though, through his writing his personality became very clear. Which should serve to illustrate just how well Vonnegut wrote.

Wrote. Past tense. He shouldn't write anymore. He's written enough, he should just finish living now.

Pratchett in Berkeley

Terry Pratchett is going to be in Berkeley on April 2, signing The Fifth Elephant. What this means is simply that I'll have to come back from spring break a day or so early so I can go get a book signed.

Through Pratchetts writing, his sense of humor comes through, but through the interactions he's had with people on the Internet, his personality comes through a little more. And so for these reasons I'd be concerned if news came of injury to Pratchett.

www.element.com

I got bored the other day, and determined that pretty much every domain in the form of [element name].[com, net, org] has been registered. This just strikes me as silly, because almost none of them are being used for anything interesting.

Leaning Japanese

In place of the Asian Studies course, I've decided to teach myself Japanese this semester. I picked up a couple of books, and Japanese Online has a decent looking lesson, and so hopefully I'll be semi-capable by the end of the semester. So much for taking a class later.
